Dear Farm Friends,

You may have noticed Red Wiggler's blog undergoing a few unusual transformations in the past week or so. Here on the farm, we're trying to become a little more tech-brilliant and make our blog more beautiful, more exciting, and easier to use. We must admit, though we're pretty darn good at hooking up irrigation, when it comes to hooking up to the wonders of the web, we can be a little clumsy. So we hope you'll bear with us as we learn this process and work to bring you more enjoyable insights into the daily workings of our small community farm.

2009 Season Calendar

I'd like to buy some tractor seeds

Today more seeds went in in our little green house and some tiny snapdragons poked their heads out of the potting soil. Later Adrienne and Michelle wrangled with the tractor. If only we could grow our own replacement parts!

Job Opening With Red Wiggler!

Dear All,

One of our Growers' well-loved job coaches is retiring, and now the ARC of Montgomery County http://www.arcmontmd.org searching for someone to fill her big shoes.

The job coach would provide employment support to a small crew of adults with developmental disabilities who are employed with Red Wiggler Community Farm. Though the job coach would be hired and employed by the ARC, he or she would spend the majority of each work day here on Red Wiggler Community Farm.

Greenhouse Work

Planting some flower seeds to get a jump on the season.






Last week our water was a little tied up, so we tried to improvise a bit.

"Greenhouse" up and running

We put together our "greenhouse" yesterday and will start planting on Monday. We'll start with the plants that take the most time and care: celeriac and numerous flowers. Soon, we'll begin working the ground outside to plant onions, peas, and potatoes. Spring is a-coming!
